Yes, we needed this. What a beautiful lilt he had, and the words. I too remember Irish week at The Clearing, and I did finish Ulysses; but not Finnegan’s Wake. And about 55 years ago, just after college, when I was commuting from my home in L.I. to my new job at Esquire Mag. in NYC, I read Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. I thought – “Wow – this is really good.”
I just found Dubliners on my bookshelf! I’ll read The Dead tonight. Thank you!

I am searching for my copy of The Dubliners. I did read Ulysses, but had about ten books, which helped me understand the book itself. I love your introductions.

I remember our “Irish Week” at The Clearing. I couldn’t finish Ulysses but the women writers were wonderful and I devoured them.
