Norb,

Your intro reminded me of the theaters I went to in the 60s, the films I enjoyed there, and being whacked in the face by reality (not always unpleasant) when I pushed the glass door out to the street. There was the Surf at Dearborn and Division, the Esquire (still there, but closed), the Clark, the World Playhouse (where I was introduced to Shakespeare while in high school--Olivier's Henry V), and the Cinema on East Chicago Avenue (where I saw the Chicago premiere of The Twelve Chairs and later had dinner with Mel Brooks). Wonderful films of still strong memory: La Dolce Vita, L'Avventura, The Bicycle Thief, The Red Balloon, 8 1/2, La Strada, Mondo Cane, Amarcord, The 400 Blows, etal. Little produced today can match it.

The atmosphere you set up in the introduction...and your memory of it.
makes me jealous. Beautiful writing all the way around.
