One of the amazing things Durrell mentioned was all the ing words Dylan
had used, and admirably so. Now, it is considered something of a sin to
use ing words. The "rules of writing" all stuff and nonsense in the end? Or
Frost's you have to learn them first before you break them?

So good to have YOUR rich, wonderful gifts back and flowing to us.

Was very intrigued by this entry...reminded me that I have a book of Durrell/Miller correspondence - 1935-1959 (selected and edited) and I went back into it to see whether they discussed Thomas, but couldn't find any mention so far...What letter writers they were! No-one writes letters like that anymore - Durrell's letters could be travel pieces themselves. Thanks for reminding me of them.
